Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Reporting–Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students (Final Report)

Pursuant to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Lee County Public Schools’ Fort Myers Technical College (OPEID Number 00755800) signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement. The institution has used no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

The total amount of funds that the institution has received from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Fort Myers Technical College was $253,787.00 for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of submission has been $253,787.00.

The estimated total number of students who deemed eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to apply for and receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 578.

The total number of students who applied for and received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 220.

The method used to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants was (a) full-time students enrolled as of the date of the CARES Act; (b) students enrolled in Adult Career and Technical Education programs; (c) students were eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (d) Students had to complete an online application which was posted on the school’s website and emailed to students. (e) Instructors encouraged students during class time on Zoom to apply for the grants. The amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grant each eligible student received was $1153.57.

Instructions and guidance were provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants via an online application. The application requested information, such as but not limited to, data necessary for the institution to determine eligibility and confirm student contact information.
